My name is Olesya Abdurmanova, a passionate advocate for cultural diversity, inclusivity, and the preservation of minority identities. Growing up in the taiga, I developed a deep connection to nature and the Komi culture, which taught me to question assumptions, analyse details, and challenge first impressions. These values have shaped my mission to defend cultural heritage and foster unity. A defining moment in my journey was encountering a survey where the quote, “Speaking a minority language means being minor,” revealed a deeper crisis of cultural identity and internalised inferiority. Determined to change this narrative, I initiated cultural orienteering tours in Syktyvkar, highlighting Komi history through the legacy of sociologist Pitirim Sorokin. Through volunteering at national festivals, I brought Komi traditions to life, blending flavours with cultural storytelling. I also taught the Komi language to people of all ages, transforming its 16 grammatical cases from barriers into gateways of understanding. My work extends beyond language preservation; it is about fostering appreciation for all cultures and defending diversity. Every step I take, whether in the forest or in intellectual pursuits, brings new insights that shape inclusive, thoughtful solutions for the future. I strive to build a world where every identity is recognised, valued, and celebrated. Volunteering with Universal Youth Alliance aligns with my mission to promote cultural understanding and unity. I am excited to bring my passion for diversity, creativity, and community engagement to support initiatives that inspire and uplift youth globally.
