Biography
My name is Elen Ohanyan, a 16-year-old student from Yerevan, Armenia, currently in my 11th grade at Shirakatsy International Lyceum. Growing up in a culturally rich environment, I developed a deep love for my community, compassion for others, and resilience in the face of challenges. These values have shaped me into a dedicated advocate for peace, leadership, and youth empowerment.
My journey as a global citizen has been marked by a willingness to step out of my comfort zone and embrace new challenges. I have volunteered with eight different organisations, organising community events and leading fundraising campaigns to address critical societal issues. These experiences have taught me the importance of resourcefulness and perseverance in driving meaningful change.
Participation in the European Youth Parliament (EYP) has been central to my growth as a leader. Through EYP, I have honed my diplomatic skills, navigated complex international relations, and proposed innovative policy solutions. Leading diverse delegations and fostering consensus among peers from different cultural backgrounds has reinforced my belief in the power of dialogue and cooperation to build mutual understanding and lasting friendships.
I have also played a key role in organising Model United Nations (MUN) conferences in Yerevan and at my school, gaining hands-on experience in diplomacy, negotiation, and crisis management. These activities have equipped me with the skills to advocate for peaceful conflict resolution and inclusive policies that uphold human rights and dignity.
At the local level, my involvement in the Shirakatsy Parliament has deepened my sense of civic responsibility. I have advocated for youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, and social justice, balancing my academic responsibilities with my commitment to community service.
Fluent in Armenian, English, Russian, and French, I am able to bridge cultural gaps and connect with people from diverse backgrounds. My strong interpersonal skills and empathy enable me to navigate multicultural environments with confidence and sensitivity, fostering collaboration and dialogue.
Beyond my academic and volunteer work, I am a published author of two books. Through storytelling, I amplify voices and advocate for change, using my writing to inspire empathy, tolerance, and positive social transformation.
Volunteering with Universal Youth Alliance aligns with my mission to empower youth and promote peace. I am excited to bring my leadership skills, advocacy experience, and passion for global citizenship to support initiatives that inspire and uplift young people worldwide.
